The Biggest Christmas letdown….Or was it?

When I was in middle school or maybe even the end of elementary school I started taking a form of karate classes (American Ninjutsu) with my brother and sister and a couple friends from school. Our parents would take turns taking us and bringing us home. I remember James wasn’t even old enough to legally drive but sometimes he could drive home on the country roads.

Bon Jovi, Crossroads

I will never forget our friends ( John and Jessica)’s step dad (Terry) would play really awesome music—or at least at the time I thought it was cool. Terry would play Bon Jovi’s “Cross Road” CD and he would play Pink Floyd’s “The Wall.” I used to love singing out loud the songs “Livin’ on a Prayer”, “Wanted Dead or Alive”, “You Give Love a Bad Name”; but the one song that always stood out to me was Pink Floyd’s “Another Brick in the Wall Part 2”. I LOVED that song so much and the very next Christmas I asked my mom for the Pink Floyd CD.

Pink Floyd’s The Wall

As I sit here writing this, now I don’t really remember if I told her the Wall, but I’m pretty sure I did. Well come Christmas morning as all the gifts had been handed out and we were about to open them up, I see a CD shaped gift… I was really excited to open it!!!! Anyone who knows about that specific album knows it a double Disk; I however did not have a clue. Honestly I really only wanted that one song…

Pink Floyd’s Dark Side Of The Moon

As I opened the gift and saw the above album in my hands my heart SUNK! What is this?!?!?! Didn’t she understand that this is NOT PINK FLOYD’S THE WALL?!?!?! I wasn’t normally like this as a kid, let me assure you of that, But I REALLY wanted the wall more than anything that Christmas and she got me this CRAP?

I know now that this was one of my Favorite gifts I have ever received from anyone. This album flows so great and the lady who sings scat style on it still gives me chills to this day. As the years went by I have gained a greater love for Pink Floyd.

Pink Floyd’s Wish You Were Here

About six years ago I met a guy named Jon [funny how two friends named John/Jon got my into this great band Pink Floyd in one way or another] that told me about an album named “Wish You Were Here” also by the Floyd. This is a Very Close second favorite album by them and funny enough that Christmas my Mom and Keith bought me this album. The two most valued albums in my huge collection were both Christmas gifts from my mom and it all started with the biggest Christmas letdown…. Or Was it????

Sadly enough I’m not sure 100% if I ever really got to tell me mom how much I really loved that CD. Also it was not until maybe a month or two ago that I was back in touch with Terry Via FaceBook and was finally able to tell him how once I found out about DSOTM and WYWH how I wondered why he never told me about how great Pink Floyd was. But I’m also glad that I had the Experiences I did learning about these two great albums…

ANOTHER SIDE NOTE, I STILL DO NOT PERSONALLY OWN PINK FLOYD’S THE WALL….Kind of funny huh?

Leave me a comment, what was an album that you stumbled across or were given that ended up being really Awesome or share thoughts on this Blog Entry….
